5. Replace Foreign Audio in Captivate. Replace existing audio with recorded foreign language audio. To identify which captivate slides contain audio, look for a small speaker image on the bottom right of each slide. If the indicator is there.

Selecting the slide you would like to update, confirm with the speaker image indicator the slide contains audio recording then go to ‘Audio’ menu and choose ‘Import to slide’ the keyboard shortcut is F6. It will bring a selection window browse and update with recoded audio file.

Adobe Localization Services - ScreenshotIf your audio length is longer than the original recording Captivate will give you three options; one, to lengthen the slide time to match the longer audio file; two, to distribute the audio file over individual slides and three, to retain the current slide timing and distribute the audio over several slides. Choose depending on how your eLearning is constructed. For most trainings the first choice of lengthening the slide time to match the length of the audio file will work and it involves no further action from your part. After importing your Captivate translated audio files, its a good idea to do some house cleaning and delete the previous audio files so the library view is stream lined.

Synchronize Captivate Audio with On Screen Activity

6. Synchronize Foreign Audio with On Screen Activity. Synchronize voice over with on screen cues/animations in each slide. This step applies if you chose the audio-split option in step 5. Captivate will give you the Audio Trimming dialog where you are given full control over slide timing and audio distribution over individual captivate slides.

Capture Localized Screenshots

7. Capture localized screenshots, depending on your project if your Captivate slide backgrounds or screen activity needs to be captured in a localized version. Usually the PowerPoint and replace inside course. The files are found in the Library window pane to the right, if you need to find out the slide associated with each background or PowerPoint right click on it and check usage.

Captivate Localization Services - ScreenshotTo replace the file, right click and chose update and select the file you would like to replace it with. If the update option does not work, its possible the file path is broken go to properties and update with the current file path.

When importing PowerPoint files, if the translated PowerPoint file ends with PPT or PPTX and Captivate is linked to a PPS or PPSX change the file extension before importing. The difference between the PPS vs PPT is, PPS will launch the presentation in show mode rather than edit.

Convert PPT to PPS

1 Rename PPT file changing its extension to *.pps. (If you can’t see file extensions, go to Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder options > View).
2 Open the file in PowerPoint and choose to Save As, scroll down in the Save as Type box till you find PowerPoint show *.pps.

Publish Localized e-Learning

8. Test And Publish Localized Captivate e-Learning. Publish your captivate file and test your localized elearning on screen activity, localized audio and functionality by checking buttons, input boxes etc.
