Mandarin subtitling guide by JBI Studios, Mandarin is the official spoken language of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and it’s a grouping of Chinese dialects spoken across northern and south-western China. Simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese is also referred to Mandarin informally. The various dialects that make up Mandarin group are taken as one language, it constutes the largest native speakers than any other language.
Mandarin is one of the six official languages of the United Nations. Mandarin subtitling is also targeted at Singapore markets as one of the four official languages.
The use of Mandarin as indicating a grouping of northern Chinese dialects is defined and used mainly by linguists, and is not commonly used outside of academic circles. Within Chinese social or cultural discourse, there is not a common "Mandarin" identity based on language; rather, there are strong regional identities centred on individual dialects, because of the wide geographical distribution and cultural diversity of speakers.
