While the same Cantonese subtitling generally refers narrowly to the Hong Kong-Guangzhou dialect, it is also used in a broader sense for the Yue branch of Chinese subtitling, which includes related dialects such as Taishanese.

Cantonese subtitling is the predominant Chinese subtitling demanded in Hong Kong and Macau. Cantonese is also the only variety of Chinese subtitling other than Standard Mandarin subtitling to be used in official contexts.
