JBI was founded in 1977 by Jacques Boulanger, an advertising executive. The company's purpose was originally to provide consulting and translations for corporate communications, in particular marketing content. A few years later, the company expanded its range of services by offering audio services, mainly for marketing videos, which quickly became a large part of the business. At that time, recordings were performed in partner studios, leveraging the foreign language voice talent pool found in Los Angeles.
In 1996, Eliane Barth joined the company, and under her leadership, we became JBI Localization and opened all Digital Pro Tools equipped recording studios. Embracing the video game craze, and the potential for storage of large quantities audio on CD ROMs, she refocused JBI's activities around Localization of multimedia content in general, and audio content in particular, keeping only peripheral services needed by our clients (manuals, on screen graphics, testing, animation...). JBI expanded its activities, offering more services to more markets: dubbing of feature films, dubbing of video sequences, songs, sound processing, video game localization.
In 2001, JBI built a second recording studio and expanded video services to satisfy the demand of our clients: in addition to our voice over and dubbing core business, we added subtitling, and localization of titles and graphics to our services, enabling us to deliver the exact same video in any foreign language, no matter the complexity of the content.
In 2005, JBI made a critical transition, changing our name to JBI Studios to reflect our evolution into a foreign language audio and video production house, and deciding to focus exclusively on that core business, leaving translation to a group of specialized translation partners. We also moved for the fourth time: the flexibility of the new space avoids bottlenecks and allows JBI Studios to accomodate large projects to be delivered under crushing deadlines. Our scale combined with our expertise in foreign languages and in all new media technology, now allows us to serve small and large clients that need any sort of multimedia, in any language.
